Coontey AWM Caption: 2870, PRIVATE SAMUEL GEORGE PEARSE, MM, 2ND MACHINE GUN COMPANY. LATER PROMOTED TO CORPORAL HE WAS DISCHARGED FROM THE AIF IN BRITAIN (1ST MACHINE GUN BATTALION) ON 1919-07-18. PEARSE THEN JOINED THE 45TH BATTALION, ROYAL FUSILIERS, FOR ACTION IN RUSSIA (REGIMENTAL NUMBER 133002). AS A SERGEANT HE WAS KILLED IN ACTION NORTH OF EMTSA ON 1919-08-29 AND POSTHUMOUSLY AWARDED THE VICTORIA CROSS.
